Institute of Higher Artistic Education in Circus Arts

The ESAC is an official school of which the competent authority is the Commission communautaire française (French-speaking Community Commission). It has been officially recognised by the Communauté française de Belgique since September 2003.

The lessons given at the ESAC are spread over 3 years, with a full-time schedule i.e. 35 hrs/week (1,080 hrs/year).  The circus arts are taught in the style of contemporary circus and all the specialisms are offered: tumbling, juggling - object manipulation, aerials, acrobatics and balancing acts. The core disciplines are: dynamic acrobatics, static acrobatics, trampoline, specific physical training, creative workshops and personal projects. Complementary disciplines include: physical and gestural training, interpretation, dramaturgy and theatrical techniques, circus history, art history, scenography.

Lessons in general circus production, circus  engineering,  law , production and creation structures, sciences  and applied sciences for circus arts (anatomy, biomechanics and dietetics) offer the artist iindispensable tools in order to guarantee his/her professional integration and safety.

Curriculum offered :

  • Bachelor's degree in "entertainment art and broadcasting and communication techniques", with a circus arts option diploma.

Admission: Candidates must possess the equivalent of a secondary school diploma.
Application to be returned before late May. Preselections are held over a three-day period in late June. Final auditions with 25 to 30 selected candidates follow in early July over a three-day epriod as well.

Around 15 applicants are accepted each year.
School year from mid-September to late June.
