codarts - CIRCUS ARTS
The Bachelor of Circus Arts at Codarts, which began in the academic year 2006-2007, is oriented towards the new circus. Circus is an art form which is an inseparable part of society and moreover is a hot item. Just like our Circus Arts study programme, which stands for daring, integration and innovation. Daring, because the programme stretches boundaries and generates a new area of performance. Integration, because the programme links circus disciplines to dance, theatre and music. Innovation, because Circus Arts offers new possibilities and embarks on new combinations: innovation in the arts, in entertainment, in the theatre, on the slopes and on the street.
The four-year Bachelor of Circus Arts study programme trains you to be a professional performing artist in at least one circus specialization. In addition you are taught a broad foundation of circus techniques, which will make you a versatile circus artist.
To achieve all of this, we offer you the best team of teachers that we could assemble. These people come from all corners: from Europe to Russia and China. For four years you can work with them on developing your qualities and becoming a visionary circus artist who is constantly involved in self-renewal. In this the combination of circus with theatre and dance is of paramount importance.
A circus student is not only to be found in the classrooms. During your circus study you build up a lot of stage experience. Last year students of Circus Arts took part in the Urban Circus performance in Utrecht’s Reuzenhal venue together with the youth dance company De Dansers, in the Rotterdam Circus Festival, in two performances in De Gouvernestraat theatre, and in the final examination performance in the old Luxor theatre (Rotterdam). Furthermore the circus students travelled to Auch in France, for the Festival Circa, where twelve circus study programmes from all over the world came together. You are also actively occupied in creating your own performances and developing the entrepreneur in yourself. The curriculum consists of an inspiring mix of the main subjects and side subjects, such as circus history, theatre training and entrepreneurship.
Do you think Circus Arts would suit you? And are you physically strong, motivated, creative and independent? Then go to codarts.nl and register for a day of participation or apply for an audition. Or come and take a look; you are very welcome on our annual open day.
Codarts is a small-scale international university for the arts (with a total of around 1100 students) established in Rotterdam, offering high quality education in the fields of music, dance and circus.
