Vertigo Circus School

The Scuola di Cirko Vertigo whose K from Kinema suggests movement - is a project supported by the city of Grugliasco (close to Turin). It is located in a cultural park, in the Casa del Teatro di Strada e del Circo Contemporaneo (Center for Street Theatre and Contemporary Circus), housed in two renovated buildings and a blue and yellow circus tent, in which international artistic shows are also presented.

The school's main activity is the programme of vocational training for contemporary circus artists. This training is financed by the European Social Fund, thanks to the vocational training centre FORCOOP.

The Scuola di Cirko Vertigo also organises leisure training, themed training and the presentation of contemporary circus acts.

A larger project...

The school falls within the scope of a larger project, the Casa del Teatro di Strada e del Circo Contemporaneo which has been developed by the association "Qanat Arte e Spettacolo" in order to protect and promote circus arts in collaboration with the cities of Grugliasco and Turin, the Piemonte region, the province of Turin, Fondazione CRT and Compagnia di San Paolo.

In 2007, the city of Grugliasco chose the school to artistically direct the festival "Sul Filo del Circo".

In 2008, the Scuola di Cirko Vertigo started the PassparCirque project in collaboration with Arc en Cirque, with a shared interest in saving and  promoting the cultural and artistic heritage of circus. It achieves this through educational and artistic exchanges, the establishment of an artistic company and the creation of a bilingual virtual library.

Curriculum offered:

• Corso di Formazione Professionale per Artista di Circo Contemporaneo: 2400 hours over 2 years. Financed by the European Social Fund. Download the course presentation here.
  School year from early November to late August.

Admission: Physical and artistic abilities required. Candidates must be 18 or above, and possess a secondary school diploma.

In 2012, auditions will take place on September 13rd and 14th, 2012 (dates to be confirmed).
