This master thesis investigates abusive behavior in circus schools, based on data collected from a survey of FEDEC member school directors.

Focus is put on the management level of schools in order to achieve and provide knowledge of measures and attitudes related to prevention. The theoretical framework for the thesis is built on understanding knowledge as situated and the creation of normative borders producing ways for practitioners of identifying with artistic disciplines.

The results show that most circus schools are willing to fight violent behavior. However, the survey also points out that the discipline requires more in-depth knowledge in order to best apply the rules in force and effectively prevent violence.
