Writing for tomorrow's circus

Artcena (FRA)

Call for participation

This initiative supports dramaturgical writing by providing circus authors with dedicated resources, both to build documentary collections that feed their reflections and imaginations and to work on their writing with a dramaturge during residencies.

The program aims to:

  • Facilitate dramaturgical collaborations by giving circus authors dedicated means to build documentary collections for their reflections and imaginations, as well as to develop the dramaturgy of their writing during residencies to experiment with it concretely.
  • Contribute to the recognition of circus writings in their specificities.
  • Support aesthetic evolutions in circus arts and encourage innovative writing approaches.

Funded by the Ministry of Culture with 50,000 euros annually, the program allows supporting at least five companies each year through:

  • Assistance in documentary research and provision of resources.
  • Financial support ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 euros to fund one or more dramaturgical writing residencies.
  • Visibility for the supported companies' creations, leveraging communication and Artcena networks.
