Winter Circus 2027–28: Open Call for Circus Artists

Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth is inviting circus artists and clowns from Finland and around the world to apply for its Winter Circus 2027–28 production.

About Winter Circus

Produced annually by Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth, Winter Circus is a warm-hearted show for the whole family that has been delighting audiences in Helsinki for more than 30 years, since 1994.

The Winter Circus has become a beloved Christmas season tradition for many families, while attracting new audiences every year. The intensive season welcomes almost 40,000 spectators annually.

Each edition features an original performance and a new ensemble. The show is accompanied by live musicians, with music specially composed for the production.

The 2027–28 season

The season will run from the end of September 2027 until the end of January 2028, including:

• Around 10 weeks of rehearsals, Monday to Friday
• Around 7 weeks of performances, mostly from Wednesday to Sunday
• Performances in Helsinki, Finland

The director, theme and title of the 2027–28 production will be announced in May 2027.

Who are they looking for?

Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth is looking for circus artists and clowns with a variety of circus skills and practices.

In addition to other circus acts, particular interest will be given to:

• Acts that could loosely fit a fictional beach or holiday theme
• Artists with experience in designing and creating mechanical chain reactions (“domino effects”)

Artists from Finland and all around the world are encouraged to apply.

Applications are accepted only via the online application form. Applications sent by email will not be considered.

Applications will be reviewed throughout the application period, and some applicants may be contacted for further information.

All applicants will be contacted by the end of January 2027.
