Professional Training: What Does It Mean to Create a Circusography?

Cirque Jules Verne – Pôle National Cirque d’Amiens is offering an intensive professional training week dedicated to circography, led by circus artist and circographer Maroussia Diaz Verbèke.

Circography is a term coined by Maroussia Diaz Verbèke to describe the writing and staging of circus performances. The concept aims to define an emerging role at the crossroads of authorship, directing and dramaturgy, specifically adapted to the particularities of circus as an artistic language.

The training offers participants the opportunity to explore this role through a combination of theoretical input and practical experimentation with students from the École du Cirque Jules Verne.

This intensive week is aimed at anyone interested in exploring the writing and staging of circus performances, including:

• Circus artists, directors and dramaturgs

Programme

The training combines theoretical input with practical experimentation.

Participants will discover the principles of circography and experiment with the role of the circographer through concepts and tools developed by Maroussia Diaz Verbèke.

The practical sessions will involve working with students from the École du Cirque Jules Verne and exploring a range of circus disciplines, including:

• Partner acrobatics
• Acrobatics
• Contortion
• Double rope
• Aerial fabric
• Aerial rope
• Hand balancing
• Chinese pole
• Juggling

This approach provides an opportunity to explore the relationship between the specific language of circus and questions of writing, dramaturgy and staging.

This training offers a rare opportunity to experiment with the role of the circographer and develop new tools for your own artistic or educational projects.

The training is led by Maroussia Diaz Verbèke, circus artist, circographer and director. Her work has for several years explored circography and the specific characteristics of circus as an artistic language.
