About Le Plongeoir
Le Plongeoir, National Circus Centre in Le Mans, supports contemporary circus creation, the presentation of performances, education and cultural outreach.
As part of its educational activities, Le Plongeoir teaches circus arts to more than 550 students through weekly classes and also works with school groups and adapted audiences. The organisation also provides specialised circus education for secondary school students in partnership with Lycée Le Mans Sud.
Le Plongeoir is looking for a circus instructor specialising in acrobatic disciplines to join its team of seven instructors.
Responsibilities
Working under the supervision of the Head of Education and Practice, the successful candidate will primarily teach circus arts, with a particular focus on acrobatics, as part of the weekly classes.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing, leading and evaluating sessions adapted to amateur participants, following a safe and motivating technical progression
- Teaching the fundamentals of acrobatics and supporting students in creative and staging processes
- Leading multidisciplinary workshops for children, teenagers and adults
- Teaching specific acrobatic disciplines, including floor acrobatics, hand balancing, partner acrobatics and acrodance
- Contributing to school-based circus programmes, including secondary and high-school education
- Preparing and supervising collective projects, student performances and outings
- Developing appropriate physical preparation, including mobility, core strength, coordination, conditioning and injury prevention
- Taking part in meetings, preparation periods and events organised by the institution
- Contributing to the management and use of educational equipment in accordance with FFEC safety recommendations
Depending on their experience, the successful candidate may also be involved in specific educational projects.
Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong technical skills and experience in floor and dynamic acrobatics
- Versatility in teaching other circus disciplines, such as juggling, object manipulation, aerial disciplines and artistic expression
- A strong artistic sensibility
- Experience teaching amateur participants, with the ability to adapt approaches according to age, physical characteristics and individual progression
- Experience working with teenagers in particular
- An interest in teaching and group facilitation
- An interest in inclusive, sensitive and non-competitive circus pedagogy
The ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as strong listening, adaptability, dynamism, rigour and interpersonal skills, are also required.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold one of the following:
- A circus teaching qualification or diploma (BIAC, TIAC, BPJEPS or DE), or
- A qualification from a professional circus school combined with teaching experience, or
- A qualification from the French Gymnastics Federation, or
- A STAPS degree with an acrobatic practice background
A driving licence (Category B) is also required.
Employment conditions
- Fixed-term contract (CDD), with the possibility of moving to a permanent contract (CDI)
- Part-time or full-time
- Approximately 55% teaching and 45% session preparation, meetings and participation in the life of the organisation
- Evening work and some weekends
- Two consecutive days off
- Salary according to the French National Collective Agreement for Artistic and Cultural Enterprises and the candidate's experience (Group 6)
- Workplace: Le Plongeoir – La Cité du Cirque, Le Mans, with occasional travel
